      Happy Fall Y’all!
We have made amazing accomplishments theses past four months.  Over 65 people attended our 1st “Linking Leisurely” networking event.  We fed over 150 individuals at our “Feeding the Hungry" sessions.  We saved several lives by donating blood at the Annual Mash Bash Blood Drive.  I think the Rotary Club of Marshall helped Marshall beat Carthage and Henderson in the annual blood drive battle.

Keep in mind that the month of November’s theme is Foundation.  Be sure to bring your $30 check to our meeting on Thursday.  Make your check payable to the Rotary Club of Marshall.  This $30 donation will help to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Women's membership in Rotary.  If you forget, no worries, Past President Craig Vanbiber will always be happy to collect your donation anytime.

In a recent email from Past President Craig Vanbiber, he stated that your donation will be credited with Paul Harris Fellow recognition points.  Your gifts to the Foundation go toward our Six Avenues of Service:
  • Promoting Peace
  • Fighting Disease
  • Providing Clean Water
  • Saving Mothers & Children
  • Supporting Education
  • Growing Local Economies

"The Last Drop" Is the chant we will be hearing around the world this year, as the fight against Polio draws agonizingly close to the final drop that will mark the complete and utter eradication of this dreaded disease.

Marshall Rotary Club Charter Members Abridged

ROSTER LIST OF CHARTER MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION SUBMITTED TO ROTARY FOR APPROVAL, JUNE 15th, 1919

This is how it all began nearly 100 years ago with this submission of this list of charter members and their classifications to the International Association of Rotary Clubs, Chicago, IL  Remember, this was 1919, and the horse and buggy were still a vital part of commerce and mail delivery.  Notice the classification of Charter Member, E. W. Mahone.

Imagine how long it took to get F. A. Alexander's name corrected in Rotary's records (if it was actually submitted as shown in this article of the Marshall News Messenger). Notice E. J. Fry's classification.  He was a banker,  at the First National Bank but at that time you couldn't have two men with the same classification in a club; and Will Pierce who was employed at the Marshall National Bank was listed as a "Banker", so E. J. Fry chose to be classified as a "Capitalist".  The club was officially recognized and chartered August 1, 1919.

These and many other fascinating stories will be revealed in the coming months as we dig into the past and post the stories, while we count down to the 100th Anniversary of Rotary in Marshall.
