STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS
Celebrating 100 Years of Life-Changing Service To Marshall Texas and Beyond
Culminating August 24, 2019, At The Marshall Civic Center
Chartered August 1, 1919, the Rotary Club of Marshall, Texas, USA, was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Texarkana, Arkansas. It was the 525th Rotary club in the world. This new club was started by the, then, “movers and shakers” of the Marshall business community, who shared a common purpose of, “He Profits Most Who Serves Best” and "Service Above Self". Those men, and a multitude of men and women who followed them, have shaped a century of unselfish service to this community and countless others around the world.
The stories in these Centennial Back-Flashes will come from many different sources: by sifting through old records preserved by the Historical Society; from articles gleaned from the archives of the Marshall News Messenger; from stories told by descendants and friends of Marshall Rotarians; and from old club records, photos, and documents furnished by club members and others.
Our sincerest thanks go to the publishers of the Marshall News Messenger and its predecessors, and to the Harrison county Historical Society for their invaluable help in opening this window into our club's fascinating and influential past, and allowing us to share and benefit from the examples and accomplishments of our predecessors.
